Reassurance

Haemorrhoids are not a dangerous condition.  Patients often come along fearing the worst – cancer.

After thorough examination they can be reassured that:

a)    haemorrhoids do not become cancerous

b)    they often settle down and intervention is not always necessary

c)   haemorrhoids seem to come and go – depending on factors such as constipation or diarrhoea, stress and diet

d)     the bleeding may be intermittent

e)     the prolapse and discomfort may be intermittent

Thus there is scope for simple treatment in controlling these attacks.
